AFREC stands for The Agricultural Fertilizer Research and Education Council. We are a farmer-led program to advance soil fertility research, technology development and education. Our No. 1 priority is to fund studies and education on agricultural fertility that are environmentally and economically sound. Consisting of 12 members who are either farmers, crop retailers or consultants providing agricultural professional services, AFREC has been advancing soil fertilizer research since Jan. 1, 2008.
AFREC traces it origins to the Agricultural Nutrient Task Force. The council, as stipulated by Section 18C.70, comprises 12 voting members. Council members must be nominated by their organizations and appointed by the commissioner. Members serve three-year terms. Appointments must be staggered so that one-third of the council membership is replaced each year.
